This workshop will introduce you to the basics of making documents more accessible using Grackle Docs (for Google Documents), Accessibility Checker for Microsoft Word, and Acrobat Pro for PDFs. Learn how to use helpful tools that check for accessibility issues, and tips and tricks for remediating these issues in order to provide fully accessible documents to everyone.

Accessibility Q&A with Faculty Development and Online Campus

Come with your questions about how to make your courses accessible. This session offers a chance to ask questions, share challenges, and explore best practices for creating accessible learning materials.

In this workshop, we’ll explore how AI can enhance your teaching practices, improve student outcomes, and support ethical decision-making in the classroom. We’ll focus on three areas: using AI for online teaching and learning, considering AI ethics, and navigating AI tools effectively.

In this workshop, we will demonstrate two new tools called UDOIT (Universal Design Online Content Inspection Tool) and TidyUP. UDOIT is is a tool that has replaced ALLY in all Canvas courses. It can identify and assist in fixing accessibility issues in your Canvas courses. TidyUP is a tool that is integrated in Canvas that can organize your Canvas files and pages. The deadline to meet the changes to ADA, Section 504/508 is approaching. It's important that faculty update their online materials to ensure they comply with the new law. The use of UDOIT and TidyUP can help enrich the online learning environment for all students, and demonstrates a commitment to best practices in online/hybrid teaching.

This session will provide guidance on locating and selecting technology that has accessibility features built in. There will also be an overview of the technology purchasing process at CSUEB, with tips for avoiding common pitfalls that can prolong the process. .

You've taken the steps to address basic accessibility, now let's take UDL one step further. We'll discuss some of the core principles in more detail and spend some time developing ideas you can experiment with. If you're interested, feel free to bring a syllabus, an assignment, or exam to work through together.

Participants will walk away with knowledge of how to quickly and easily build accessibility into their course content. (Part 1) What is UDL? Why does it matter? Who does it benefit? (Hint: it's not just about our disabled students.) (Part 2) Accessible and flexible document creation. (Part 3) Choosing/creating accessible content and mindful organization of course environment.

Are your online/hybrid courses ready for April 2026 when new requirements in Title II of the Americans with Disability Act will be enacted? In this workshop, faculty will learn about the new Title II requirements and leveraging Canvas to meet those requirements. Topics will include how to make your instructional materials accessible to all students including scanned pdf's, word and google documents, images, and videos.
